Slenky, connecting young people’s passions with opportunities is launches Birmingham & West Midlands hub.

In the early 90’s, Slenky's founder lived and worked in Birmingham, a city he found to have communities of amazing and talented people yet surprisingly lower levels of aspiration. Fast-forward to London 2012, and Slenky was launched back in his home city of London at Wembley Stadium.

Slenky is a social platform with a mission to connect brands of all description with young, hungry and talented people, aged 13-24 seeking a ‘shot’ at their industry. Over the last few years, Slenky has collaborated with international brands from Microsoft and Sony to BlackBerry and Virgin Atlantic, providing opportunities to explore passions via real-world experiences– all discovered through social channels.

Slenky’s activity with Sony earned it a finalist spot at the prestigious 2014 Mobile Media Awards, going up against giants Google and Selfridges.

Now Slenky has set its sights on Birmingham, the UK’s second city, becoming socially accessible. Encouraging its users to ‘Take Your Shot’, Slenky is connecting the brands, businesses and organisations in the region who can super-charge aspirations with their passions - from art and fashion to sport and technology.

Partnering key stakeholders whg, Orbit, Wates, Wilmott Dixon & Arcadis to name a few, the Birmingham and West Midlands hub recently soft-launched, showcasing Birmingham talent at IMAX London.

Slenky now aims to engage the regional business community, making them socially accessible to the young people who will prove to be the most important audience for their business or service in the coming years. Insights from perhaps less-known organisations such as the Titan Education Partnership, Marketing Birmingham and social responsibility group Thrive have already helped to create new opportunities. This includes social media engagement in schools, colleges and universities, with some schools in the city amongst the first in the country to have their own Slenky hubs.

Slenky’s also giving a platform to some Birmingham start-ups. Amongst the first are Fashion Designer Stephen Arthur and Sunjay Kohli who took their shots in 2013/14 in fashion and music respectively, travelling up and down the country to make the most of new contacts and opportunities. Both now manage their own businesses and their hubs give others a chance to Take a Shot! (Stephen Arthur / The NUBI Guys)
